Day 1!!









Hi everyone! Day one is officially complete. It was a successful day but way more exciting than any of us anticipated. We arrived at the airport and began checking in and shortly realized Reese did not have a boarding pass. Nor could she easily get one. After about 1.5 hours at the checkin, a bit of stress, and a lot of work by the calm, cool, collected Darren Dragovich (Thank you so much!) she finally got one! Those of us that waited with her were also escorted through security which was a nice touch to the ordeal. We then boarded the plane and took off for DC! Most of us spent the flight reading or sleeping, Ty intensely stared out the window, and Reese and Alysa would not stop talking. Fun fact: this was Alianna’s first time flying! Once we landed in DC, we loaded up all the luggage, Reese went and made sure she had a boarding for tomorrow (she did, don’t worry), and we headed to the hotel for the night. After a nice dinner and team meeting we all passed out, except Ty and Sean who went to the pool. We are excited and ready for our second leg of the journey tomorrow! Please pray that we get all the logistics figured out, have a safe and uneventful flight, and that we all get a boarding pass :) We will see you on the other side of the world!

Day 11–VBS Concludes

Hello friends and family! Thanks for checking in! Today was a wonderful day full of laughter, singing, dancing, crafting and so much more. We woke up this morning, earlier than we would have liked, rolled out of bed and headed to the dining hall for breakfast. We enjoyed our meal, the staff headed off to training, and the team and kids started our third and final day of VBS.   To begin the morning session, we sang some of our favourite songs and played some awesome “repeat after me” games lead by the dynamic duo Sean and Ty.  Ms. Parker taught a lesson asking the question “Who is my neighbour?” The kids participated in discussions and we wrote out all of our thoughts. After the lesson, the kids had the opportunity to make bracelets! One for themselves, and one for a neighbor. They also were able to make a necklace. The kids had a wonderful time making their creations. Even though the beads were a tad bit tiny, the kids giggled and talked as they worked thoughtfully on their bracelets.

Day 5!!

Today was a wonderful and refreshing day. We started off the morning with a delicious breakfast on an overlook with a fantastic view of the mountains and village around us. We saw the local women and children walking up to the city from their small villages and farms and Jamie happened to spot a little monkey too! We ate our delicious omelets, porridge, with plenty of coffee and spiced tea. Afterwards we drove back over to the 900+ year old churches here in Lalibela.   There we were guided through steep staircases, dark rooms and small tunnels (which was a little tough for the claustrophobic peeps like me). We learned the significance of each design in the architecture and how it related to Christianity as a whole. As we continued throughout the churches, we had the opportunity to see the several intricate paintings and tapestries within the churches.
