Day 7!!

Good Evening Ethiopia!

Day seven started with preparation for VBS!  We journeyed to Hope for the Fatherless’ main head quarters, and gathered supplies and organized our team for what is to start tomorrow afternoon!!! We are all eager to get time with these sweet kids at Hope for the Fatherless! 

After our amazing lunch at HFTF headquarters, and VBS prep work, we headed over to Unity Park - the “Ethiopian Smithsonian.” The best way to describe it would be, a zoo AND a museum in one, highlighting Ethiopia’s history and displaying some of its very own animals!

Rain was not absent, as we all walked around Unity Park, but it definitely didn’t make our time any less special.  ❤️ We chatted, walked, talked, read, and listened to all we could while we were there!  

We ended our day with shopping at a few local stores & then headed back to the hotel for dinner and bed. 

We are so thankful for all of you watching our trip through this blog as well as covering us in prayer!

Please pray for the health and safety for our team(as always), and for us to be a blessing tomorrow as we begin serving at HFTF.  I pray we are the hands and feet of Jesus to the staff and kids!

Day 11–VBS Concludes

Hello friends and family! Thanks for checking in! Today was a wonderful day full of laughter, singing, dancing, crafting and so much more. We woke up this morning, earlier than we would have liked, rolled out of bed and headed to the dining hall for breakfast. We enjoyed our meal, the staff headed off to training, and the team and kids started our third and final day of VBS.   To begin the morning session, we sang some of our favourite songs and played some awesome “repeat after me” games lead by the dynamic duo Sean and Ty.  Ms. Parker taught a lesson asking the question “Who is my neighbour?” The kids participated in discussions and we wrote out all of our thoughts. After the lesson, the kids had the opportunity to make bracelets! One for themselves, and one for a neighbor. They also were able to make a necklace. The kids had a wonderful time making their creations. Even though the beads were a tad bit tiny, the kids giggled and talked as they worked thoughtfully on their bracelets.

Day 5!!

Today was a wonderful and refreshing day. We started off the morning with a delicious breakfast on an overlook with a fantastic view of the mountains and village around us. We saw the local women and children walking up to the city from their small villages and farms and Jamie happened to spot a little monkey too! We ate our delicious omelets, porridge, with plenty of coffee and spiced tea. Afterwards we drove back over to the 900+ year old churches here in Lalibela.   There we were guided through steep staircases, dark rooms and small tunnels (which was a little tough for the claustrophobic peeps like me). We learned the significance of each design in the architecture and how it related to Christianity as a whole. As we continued throughout the churches, we had the opportunity to see the several intricate paintings and tapestries within the churches.
